    Hmm.

    Didn’t work for us.

    Nothing is displayed at all. Using WP2.5.1

    Does it require the Lightbox plugin, or anything similar?

    No need for lightbox plugin. It is also included. It works for me. Do one thing, clear cookies from your browser and try again . Otherwise You can see only one time the announcement (within 24 hours)

    Hello Piggy, You need to Run the plugin (Check the checkbox in plugin option window) after adding a proper announcement or news . The path is

    Log in as admin & Option >> Announcement

    Sajith,

    Just came across this: http://www.sajithmr.com/wordpress-announcement-plugin/ and thank you very much for developing it.

    I wonder if you can add support for a couple of things:

    1) The ability to track ‘views’ – how many people see the message? The counter could be reset each time the message was changed.

    2) Automatically picking up things like font style and color scheme from the theme stylesheet. I know there’s a CSS file that can be messed with, but for novice users this would help integrate the plugin into their sites more effectively.

    Anyway, top plugin mate.

    cheers,
    Ahmed

    It would be nice if this works for EVERY visitor to the site, not just new visitors.

    In other words, if the announcement is changed, the cookie will be refreshed, and even previous visitors will see the NEW announcement. Maybe it already works this way, but seem so from the description on the website.

    Better yet, provide 2 checkboxes:

    1. “Never Display Announcements”

    2. “Dont Show This Announcement Again”

    Should provide a link to show them how to reset the options.

    That would be super cool.

    Hello Jake,

    Every visitor can see the announcement , not only the new visitors. But once it played, it will set a cookie which expires in 24 hours. So the same person can see the announcement next day also. It would be very disturbance if it plays always when one visit your each page. That why i put this limitation. Anyway , i will add the option for setting expiry with in a day and will let you know.

    Thanks and Regards

    Testing on YOUR site on 2 different computers (both Windows XP).

    Upon visiting your site for 1st time using IE 7, script errors occur in IE 7):
    Line: 914
    Char: 124
    Error: Expected identifier, string or number

    However, it’s totally fine in Firefox 2 as well as new version 3.

    I went one step further and de-activated all plug-ins except the Announcement plug-in – Still nothing.

    IS there anyway to trigger a box like this on a button (or link) press? I love the idea but am looking to have the pop-up supplement a banner on my site. Likw it would say click here for more info and the box would popup without taking them away from the page.

    What you have done, is a wonder full job. Yep, IE shows script error. I am now working on that. I used lightwindow js. But now switching into lightweight js. The problem will be resolved on this monday. Regards

    7)after that again open “Announcement” tab(step 4) check the activate box and click save thats all.

    Well… didn’t work for me, either (WP 2.5.1). Looks like it’ll be great, though! :)

    Jul 24th, 2008

    Strange, it didn’t work while using Safari for my site (yes, cookies have been deleted before the try), but work fine while using firefox (which i usually never use…).

    So i guess it means that the plugin works fine. Hope that my readers are using firefox :p

    Great plugin, however ! An idea of developpement : perhaps some contextual announcements, depending on the way the person arrives to the site (from google, from a specific web site, directly, …) or the page the reader is trying to access !??

    Plugin works great on Safari, Firefox and Chrome, but still errors out in IE. Any update on a fix? Don’t see any updates from the developer… Has he given up the development? I would, as I’m sure a lot of other people would much appreciate if there was a fix for IE. Thanks in advance.

  47. blankman373

    Sep 22nd, 2008

    OK, so I got it working on my test site, http://s220873760.onlinehome.us, in IE by doing the following. In announcement.php, change line 80 from:
    myLightWindow.activateWindow({href: ‘$plugin_path/content.php’, width:600, class: class=”lightwindow page-options”});

    to:

    myLightWindow.activateWindow({href: ‘$plugin_path/content.php’, width:600});

    Doing that change, it works now, but the only problem is that in the top left corner it says “Null” but again, that is only in IE. It still works perfectly in Firefox, Safari and Chrome. If someone could help figure out why the “Null” is there that would be awesome. Thanks.

  48. blankman373

    Sep 22nd, 2008

    OK, I got this fixed. IE was just being retarded, as usual. In the activateWindow command, there is an option for title. FF, Safari and Chrome all recognize that if its not there, it should be left blank. But IE in it’s infinite wisdom, decided it should make it null. So I fixed it by adding “title: ”” to make th line look like this:

    myLightWindow.activateWindow({href: ‘$plugin_path/content.php’, title: ”, width:600});
