Enough !!! You visitors can now see your announcement. It will be displayed only one time for a particular user .

    Hmm.

    Didn’t work for us.

Nothing is displayed at all. Using WP2.5.1

Does it require the Lightbox plugin, or anything similar?

  2. Sajith M.R June 26, 2008 at 11:05 pm #

No need for lightbox plugin. It is also included. It works for me. Do one thing, clear cookies from your browser and try again . Otherwise You can see only one time the announcement (within 24 hours)

  3. Sajith M.R June 26, 2008 at 11:17 pm #

Hello Piggy, You need to Run the plugin (Check the checkbox in plugin option window) after adding a proper announcement or news . The path is

Log in as admin & Option >> Announcement

    Sajith,

Just came across this: http://www.sajithmr.com/wordpress-announcement-plugin/ and thank you very much for developing it.

I wonder if you can add support for a couple of things:

    1) The ability to track ‘views’ – how many people see the message? The counter could be reset each time the message was changed.

    2) Automatically picking up things like font style and color scheme from the theme stylesheet. I know there’s a CSS file that can be messed with, but for novice users this would help integrate the plugin into their sites more effectively.

    Anyway, top plugin mate.

    cheers,
    Ahmed

  9. Sajith M.R June 27, 2008 at 7:32 am #

    Hi Ahmed,

Thank you for your suggestions . Yep, i will add the options for views, and font selection soon. Will let you know when it finishes. Thanks and Regards

  11. Sajith M.R June 27, 2008 at 10:50 am #

Hey Dade, what is your website url. Make sure your checked the active checkbox in option area.

  12. Dade June 27, 2008 at 11:10 am #

yes its checked i also made sure i had the wordpress wp_footer call in my template as well the content.php file displays the announcement i had set

  13. jake June 27, 2008 at 5:43 pm #

It would be nice if this works for EVERY visitor to the site, not just new visitors.

In other words, if the announcement is changed, the cookie will be refreshed, and even previous visitors will see the NEW announcement. Maybe it already works this way, but seem so from the description on the website.

    Better yet, provide 2 checkboxes:

    1. “Never Display Announcements”

    2. “Dont Show This Announcement Again”

Should provide a link to show them how to reset the options.

    That would be super cool.

  14. Sajith M.R June 27, 2008 at 6:51 pm #

    Hello Jake,

Every visitor can see the announcement , not only the new visitors. But once it played, it will set a cookie which expires in 24 hours. So the same person can see the announcement next day also. It would be very disturbance if it plays always when one visit your each page. That why i put this limitation. Anyway , i will add the option for setting expiry with in a day and will let you know.

    Thanks and Regards

  16. Sajith M.R June 28, 2008 at 12:14 am #

    Hi Hyperlook,

Here it is working well. And please do provide your website also, let me see what it shows here.

working well in my blog, but i’m agree with #jake

  18. FruityOaty June 29, 2008 at 1:20 am #

Testing on YOUR site on 2 different computers (both Windows XP).

Upon visiting your site for 1st time using IE 7, script errors occur in IE 7):
    Line: 914
    Char: 124
Error: Expected identifier, string or number

However, it’s totally fine in Firefox 2 as well as new version 3.

Does this plugin workd with WP 2.5.1? I did the installation & announcement page setup, save the page, cleared all cookies and cashe – Still Nothing Here.
I went one step further and de-activated all plug-ins except the Announcement plug-in – Still nothing.

IS there anyway to trigger a box like this on a button (or link) press? I love the idea but am looking to have the pop-up supplement a banner on my site. Likw it would say click here for more info and the box would popup without taking them away from the page.

  21. Sajith M.R June 29, 2008 at 8:22 am #

    Hello FruityOaty,
What you have done, is a wonder full job. Yep, IE shows script error. I am now working on that. I used lightwindow js. But now switching into lightweight js. The problem will be resolved on this monday. Regards

    Hi again!

This looks sexier than the WWSGD plugin. I’ll try it on my blog. Thanks.

  31. Jeff July 20, 2008 at 8:27 pm #

Well… didn’t work for me, either (WP 2.5.1). Looks like it’ll be great, though! :)

  32. Bep July 24, 2008 at 9:33 pm #

Strange, it didn’t work while using Safari for my site (yes, cookies have been deleted before the try), but work fine while using firefox (which i usually never use…).

So i guess it means that the plugin works fine. Hope that my readers are using firefox :p

Great plugin, however ! An idea of developpement : perhaps some contextual announcements, depending on the way the person arrives to the site (from google, from a specific web site, directly, …) or the page the reader is trying to access !??

  33. Peter Brown July 28, 2008 at 7:20 pm #

It didn’t work for me either. I’m using 2.6. Looks great, I’d appreciate it if you could let me know if you do get it working.

    Thank you.

  46. blankman373 September 21, 2008 at 1:16 am #

Plugin works great on Safari, Firefox and Chrome, but still errors out in IE. Any update on a fix? Don’t see any updates from the developer… Has he given up the development? I would, as I’m sure a lot of other people would much appreciate if there was a fix for IE. Thanks in advance.

  47. blankman373 September 22, 2008 at 10:20 pm #

OK, so I got it working on my test site, http://s220873760.onlinehome.us, in IE by doing the following. In announcement.php, change line 80 from:
    myLightWindow.activateWindow({href: ‘$plugin_path/content.php’, width:600, class: class=”lightwindow page-options”});

    to:

    myLightWindow.activateWindow({href: ‘$plugin_path/content.php’, width:600});

Doing that change, it works now, but the only problem is that in the top left corner it says “Null” but again, that is only in IE. It still works perfectly in Firefox, Safari and Chrome. If someone could help figure out why the “Null” is there that would be awesome. Thanks.

  48. blankman373 September 22, 2008 at 11:13 pm #

OK, I got this fixed. IE was just being retarded, as usual. In the activateWindow command, there is an option for title. FF, Safari and Chrome all recognize that if its not there, it should be left blank. But IE in it’s infinite wisdom, decided it should make it null. So I fixed it by adding “title: ”” to make th line look like this:

    myLightWindow.activateWindow({href: ‘$plugin_path/content.php’, title: ”, width:600});

  49. Andy October 14, 2008 at 9:28 am #

Nope – doesn’t work for me with WP 2.6 either – even after editing the php file. Pity.

  50. Gerd October 27, 2008 at 12:22 am #

WP 2.6.3-DE (German), Install of the plugin works fine. But if I want to edit a announcement, I get a problem. The link “Edit…” results in “page not found”. In the browser I can see the link, created when clicking on “Edit…”:
    http://www.michael-goehner.de/blog/wp-admin/%3C?=%20get_option(%27siteurl%27)%20?%3E/wp-admin/page.php?action=edit&post=%3C?=%20get_option(%27announce_id%27);%20?%3E

It looks like the links is not “translated” in the correct way. What can I do?

  51. Issues October 27, 2008 at 11:33 am #

Still having issues in WP 2.6, even with blankman’s fixes. How is the update coming along Sajith M.R? Looks awesome in Firefox, but if it errors for 80% of internet users . . .

  52. Mark Wilson October 30, 2008 at 12:31 am #

When the Announcement Plugin is active it will disable any NextGEN galleries you may be running.

  53. chris November 6, 2008 at 6:31 am #

Hi, many thanks to your ideal plugins.. i have not tried it, but from the intro, I was thinking of a feature may you pls consider for future release..

if the admin could control how often the user could see the announcements, i.e instead of 24 hours, the admin could control that a particular user will only see the announcements once (or twice or weekly) in their life (via cookie or IP).. this way, I might not be annoying my users??

just a thought.. thanks so much for your plugins.

  54. Issues November 12, 2008 at 6:36 am #

Did you get the IE issue fixed in v1.1 . . . I installed it, but still getting a JS error! Please post an update to the status or code fix. Thanks

  55. Jimmie December 22, 2008 at 11:16 am #

this works, you might think it doesnt because the default setting is white on white, just change the color in css and your fine.

  56. Branko December 22, 2008 at 3:00 pm #

not working.. i tried everything.. does it conflict with other plugins??

  57. Lorne January 8, 2009 at 1:28 pm #

I like the plugin very much! Great work. I noticed though that, on my most recent post I have an embedded video clip (using the Embedded Video plugin: http://www.jovelstefan.de/embedded-video/) and it overlaps a bit with the announcement page. If you check out my site, you will see it. It is not a big thing, just a minor annoyance. If you have any idea how to correct it though, I’d appreciate it.

    Great work on this!
    Lorne
